Logan Now Belongs to Mahindra & Mahindra

|

Joint Venture between Renault and Mahindra & Mahindra has come to end by Mahindra & Mahindra buying entire 49% stake in JV. Now M&M is 100% stake holder for Logan in India. M&M representative said they will continue production of Logan and also looking for future possiblities to increase the Logan sales in India.

Representatives of both companies signed a framework agreement earlier this week, making clear that M&M is taking over all operation for sales of Logan. M&M said that they will continue taking assistance from Renault for technical and parts support. M&M also said that they are looking for possibilities of curbing Logan engine capacity and its length to save around 20% in taxes and duties.

We have received a complaint from a Logan Owner and decided to post in our blong becuase he is in real pain, which all Logan owners are slowly starting to realise that M&R is no more taking interest in listening our problems. Complaint is as follows:

I would like to throw some light on the pains that I have, and still am going through, after buying a brand new Mahindra Logan GLX 1.4 (petrol) (which is under warranty) -  Vehicle no. MH-14 BC-9932.

Since then the axle has broken while driving thrice every second month after replacement from the service station.

Unfortunately the inexperienced staff couldn't resolve the root problem and just kept changing the axle. Since last 2 months the car is at the Silver jubilee hadapsar service station for the same purpose.

At first they tried to convince that there is physical impact which caused the axle breakdown 3rd time. Where there wasn't any impact which even the insurance people didn't agree at first. they suggested to change the complete suspension which will resolve the axle problem which included ( balance rod, right shock absorbers, ti rod end, etc.) after replacement on the trial at their service station by the service guy the right axle broke again.

Till date they are experimenting on the vehicle with every single option they can. The car was left at the service station around 25th January 2010.

Still the problem persists with no solution.

If the car problems cannot be resolved does the company provide any solution?

If it is under warranty and non-repairable by the company why should the customer suffer, the car should be replaced if they don't have the expertise to service it right.

Renault to Go Solo - Now Official

|

It will be a solo run for French car major Renault in India as it expands beyond its one-product joint venture with the Mahindra group that failed to impress buyers and ended up as a money-losing business for the two companies . The Carlos Ghosn-led company announced solo production and distribution plans for new products, including a small car. Renault on Tuesday said it would launch as many as five new cars over the next four years and these would be across product spectrum , including the big-volume hatchback segment.

India is a tough market, but a growing market. It is an opportunity for us to start again," Sudhir Rao, Renault India's COO, told TOI over phone from Mumbai. He said Renault plans to set up a new distribution network, which should grow to about 150 dealerships by 2014. The company plans to make new vehicles at its factory near Chennai, which is built in partnership with group company Nissan and will have a capacity of 4 lakh units per annum.

Renault's announcement of solo operations puts an end to speculation on whether it would include Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M ) in its expansion plans. With Logan failing to cut much ice in the market , relations between the two had soured, prompting them to take a fresh look at the partnership , as reported by TOI in its October 7, 2009 edition.
Sales of Logan produced at M&M's Nashik factory have been falling for more than a year, going down 61% during April 2009 and January 2010 to 4445 vehicles against a backdrop of 25% growth in domestic car sales.

Rao declined to give any specific comment on Logan JV and said Renault is talking to M&M about a restructuring , and a decision will be made in 30 to 45 days. " We are exploring various options for the JV as a business and Logan as a product," he said.
M&M's automotive sector president Pawan Goenka said the company wanted "continuity in Logan" , but declined to elaborate. Marc Nassif, country head for Renault in India, said the French car major hopes to sell over 100,000 units annually by 2014 and will introduce the Fluence and Koleos models in 2011.

Alliance In Danger

Carlos Ghosn-led Renault will not take along M&M in its future expansion and will launch five new cars, including a small car, from its factory near Chennai The present JV between M&M and Renault will be restructured as the relationship between the two companies has soured after poor performance of sedan Logan

New Delhi: Home-grown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra Thursday said it will launch three new products under different categories by March 2011.

The company, in a joint venture with French car giant Renault, is also considering to launch a new product in the Indian market. The JV's existing product Logan is expected to witness a decline in sales during the current fiscal year.

"Our passenger car business (Logan) is doing lower than the industry estimates and we will see a degrowth in the segment during the fiscal," M&M president (Automotive sector) Pawan Goenka told reporters on the sidelines of Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) annual convention here.

"Construction of our upcoming Chakan plant is on track and production will start by November. The first product to be launched is a small four-wheeler loader under one tonne category by January 2010," Goenka said on new product launches.

The company would also roll out a truck and a new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) by the end of fiscal year 2010-11.

When asked about any new product launch under its joint venture with Renault, Goenka said, "we are in talks with Renault to bring in a new product in the JV, but nothing has been finalised."

The JV depends on what Renault would decide about its long term strategy regarding India, he added.

The JV is dependant on what Renault would decide about its long term strategy regarding India, he added.

"We are currently producing about 700-800 units of Logan every month. We have redefined the volume and it can be ramped up in accordance with market demand," Goenka said.

On losses that Mahindra-Renault incurred, he said over Rs 300 crore loss in FY'09 was due to one time right-up on investment in the JV and the actual loss is about Rs150 crore.

About foraying into the US market, Goenka said, "We will start production from Nashik plant by December and will start the shipment thereafter. The vehicles will be sold in the US by February next year."

Logan - Boot Opener

|

About couple of days back I had received a SMS from Bhasin Motors about Boot Opener offer, which was "Get a push button boot opener for your Logan in just Rs.500 only - limited period offer". I contacted dealer he gave me booking for next week, so I went to dealer traveled about 45 km's (Gurgaon to Mathura Road) but what rubbish - they said your model (E II) needs a different one so come around a week later.

As per new booking date now today I got the boot opener fitted in my car, for which they took around 4 - 5 hours - which surprised me a lot.

Finally it's a push button boot opener with an actuator attached to it and connection given from stereo wiring (again surprised). But it's working, though they could make a matching switch to the existing rear window power lock (see picture).

Total I had to pay Rs.500 only (444.44 + 55.56 tax), which I find quite justified. I also heard that some dealers are taking benefit out of this offer by charging labour and tax extra.

I would suggest to others - It's worth getting a boot opener in Rs.500.

Why Should I Buy Logan?

|

I bought my Logan Diesel on 29 May 2007, in very first month when it was launched. Actually I was going to buy Fiesta (doubtful about its service network, Verna I cant afford) and was almost decided but heard that Renault is launching Logan next month and trust me I don't consider Logan due to Mahindra, its only and only due to Renault. If you see European Logan forums you will find people crazy about this car and its performance.

21 days waiting is nothing if you compare a 3 month waiting in some EU countries. Also Mahindra never promoted Logan as cheap car, in-fact they just said "Wide Body Car" a budget one. The problem is our mind because we generally treat car by our status symbol and wealth. Most of the time we buy car by looks & manufacturer's trust (for home use) and not by its performance and use. This is the only cause why Maruti is still able to sell most number of cars. Although I treat Maruti cars as taking benefit of their trust factor not performance.

Someone asked me "why don't you buy Indigo or Indigo Marina?" and I said why I am not buying Tata's cars, can be guessed by anyone, I personally feel that their diesel engine is still not up to the mark and gives up beyond 80 to 90k. Their trademark rear wheel problem still continues. /-----\. The fitments they are offering (LCD etc) can be easily done at very reasonable price. My fundamental of buying a car is "Don't see which you can replace or get fitted through market, see what you can't replace like its engine, axle, balance, handling etc."

Also regarding FE I am also amazed with its performance which I didn't expect (I can show you on board comp. photo). But some of my EU friends told me that its engine improves after 6000 - 9000 KM's and gets smoother later (but make sure you drive at least 15k a year).
