        <![CDATA[<p>It will be a solo run for French car major Renault in India as it expands beyond its one-product joint venture with the Mahindra group that failed to impress buyers and ended up as a money-losing business for the two companies . The Carlos Ghosn-led company announced solo production and distribution plans for new products, including a small car. Renault on Tuesday said it would launch as many as five new cars over the next four years and these would be across product spectrum , including the big-volume hatchback segment.</p>
<p>India is a tough market, but a growing market. It is an opportunity for us to start again," Sudhir Rao, Renault India's COO, told TOI over phone from Mumbai. He said Renault plans to set up a new distribution network, which should grow to about 150 dealerships by 2014. The company plans to make new vehicles at its factory near Chennai, which is built in partnership with group company Nissan and will have a capacity of 4 lakh units per annum.</p>
<p>Renault's announcement of solo operations puts an end to speculation on whether it would include Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M ) in its expansion plans. With Logan failing to cut much ice in the market , relations between the two had soured, prompting them to take a fresh look at the partnership , as reported by TOI in its October 7, 2009 edition. <br />Sales of Logan produced at M&amp;M's Nashik factory have been falling for more than a year, going down 61% during April 2009 and January 2010 to 4445 vehicles against a backdrop of 25% growth in domestic car sales.</p>
<p>Rao declined to give any specific comment on Logan JV and said Renault is talking to M&amp;M about a restructuring , and a decision will be made in 30 to 45 days. " We are exploring various options for the JV as a business and Logan as a product," he said. <br />M&amp;M's automotive sector president Pawan Goenka said the company wanted "continuity in Logan" , but declined to elaborate. Marc Nassif, country head for Renault in India, said the French car major hopes to sell over 100,000 units annually by 2014 and will introduce the Fluence and Koleos models in 2011. </p>

<p>Armed with an entire portfolio of only one car, the Logan, which unfortunately has earned more of cab image rather than a entry-level family saloon. Blame it on the econo-box styling that comes from the French car maker's Romanian sister concern, Dacia, which specializes in practical, no-nonsense cars. Renault plans to change all that by launching the Fluence, an all-new mid-size sedan that will introduce India to proper French styling and design flair. The Fluence is expected to be launched by late 2010 and at an estimated pricing of Rs. 10 to 12 lakhs, will take on highly capable mid-size contenders such as the Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla as well as the newly launched Chevrolet Cruze. </p>

But the design language is very French with its swoopy profile similar to the Laguna, swept back headlights and hood creases. Overall, the car is extremely attractive and looks very different from the sort of cars we've seen in India in that segment. The interiors too are equally subtle and classy. But looks apart, the C platform chassis is renowned for impressive ride quality and handling.</p></strong>
<p><strong>After the practical but bland start with the Logan, Renault is all set to change its image here in India with the all new Fluence.</strong> </p>
<p>From what we have seen, the car looks simply stunning with its sleek coupe like profile. The brilliant design, with its delectably French design language, is further aided by an airy spacious cabin and a host of petrol and diesel engines. Once launched expect it to give the Civic, the Corolla and the newly launched Cruze a good run for their money. </p>

<p>New Delhi: Home-grown auto major Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Thursday said it will launch three new products under different categories by March 2011.</p>
<p>The company, in a joint venture with French car giant Renault, is also considering to launch a new product in the Indian market. The JV's existing product Logan is expected to witness a decline in sales during the current fiscal year.</p>
<p>"Our passenger car business (Logan) is doing lower than the industry estimates and we will see a degrowth in the segment during the fiscal," M&amp;M president (Automotive sector) Pawan Goenka told reporters on the sidelines of Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) annual convention here.</p>
<p>"Construction of our upcoming Chakan plant is on track and production will start by November. The first product to be launched is a small four-wheeler loader under one tonne category by January 2010," Goenka said on new product launches.</p>
<p>The company would also roll out a truck and a new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) by the end of fiscal year 2010-11.</p>
<p>When asked about any new product launch under its joint venture with Renault, Goenka said, "we are in talks with Renault to bring in a new product in the JV, but nothing has been finalised."</p>
<p>The JV depends on what Renault would decide about its long term strategy regarding India, he added. </p>

<p>About foraying into the US market, Goenka said, "We will start production from Nashik plant by December and will start the shipment thereafter. The vehicles will be sold in the US by February next year."</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>The clutch problem I mentioned in my last post, now again bothering me, I dont know why this is happening with my car. Hard power steering can be managed but hard clutch creates lot of problem, becuase I need to drive car in city like delhi and gurgaon where a lot of gear shifting needed.</p>
<p>Anyways I decided to go for its fourth service today, this time to Bhasin Motors, Mathura Road service center (they promised me to give a 5000 Rs coupon also). I explaiined all problems to service advisor, including its hard clutch,&nbsp;tight power steering and RLH door noise (<a href="http://www.loganclub.in/2008/06/logan-third-service-cost.html">check third service problem requests</a>) and I stayed there from 11 Am to 4:30 PM. Finally car got ready at 4:30 promising me that all problems are now solved and I got a bill of Rs. 1760 which includes:</p>
<p>Labour Charge - 1150<br />MI3000 Fuel Add - 577<br />Consumable Charges - 60</p>
<p>Also I got 5% discount of parts and 15% on labour due to free logan checkup week and a funny Rs 5000 free checkup etc coupons, which I can only redeem with paid services - one at a time.</p>
<p>Now car running better than earlier, pickup is improved a bit and engine noise is gone down but again clutch and steering problem is as it is. Yes the door problem is solved a bit as they changed door stricker under warranty.</p>
<p>Since I was about to complete 2 years so I opted for 1 year extended warranty, in which I got 15% discount, again due to logan checkup week at 7900-15% = 6715. But I tell you Scorpio warranty is available at just 9999 for 2 years.</p>
<p>Overall experience at Bhasin Service center was average as there were lot of problems like cleanliness, dirty waiting room and a very conjested overall area (Sterling is better in all of these).</p>]]>

<p>So they changed the clutch wire and now its almost 50% softer than earlier.</p>
<p>The problem is its clutch wire only, becuase that catches durt and grease and produces less friction day by day.</p>]]>

<p>Actually for last more than one year I am struggling with its hard clutch (yes becuase its has a wire based clutch, which need more pressure to press effectively) and developed a regular&nbsp;knee pain due to that.</p>
<p>I sent mails, talked to Mahindra Head office, sent car to service center but nothing happened. Service center guys have very good excuse (reply) that "Sir your car has a wire based clutch, so its hard, we cant do much in this". May be it was my bad luck I decided to purchase Logan.</p>
<p>I talked to some freinds in EU countries and they said they have a haydraulic clutch in their Logan and have no such problem - WOW what a silly way to cost cutting in Indian Logan.</p>
<p>Finally I sent one more mail to M&amp;R customer service, lets see what happens:</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>There are few drawbacks when you buy a Diesel car and one of that is noise and vibration. Since day one I was trying to figure out some solution to reduce the in cabin noise, which is already lesser if I compare to some other cars but cant compare to petrol ones.</p>
<p>So after researching a lot I finally decided to go for sound proofing (damping) stage 1 i.e. damping hood. For damping material I had no choice except "Dynamat" which was easily available at accessory shops (a bit expensive I would say).</p>
<p>I removed the stock cotton made covering sheet and damped the "Dynamat all over hood, it took 3 sheets of 24" x 48" Dynamat Xtreme.</p>
<p>

Again I am looking for some other things which can reduce noise futher. Few are:</p>
<ul>
<li>Use Dynamat on central tunnel and under dashboard<br /></li>
<li>Use Hoodliner over Dynamat under hood</li></ul>
<p>Pasting damping material under dashboard is critical because it requires removing dashboard, steering etc., looking for dealer to assist.</p>
<p>In coming days I will use Dynamat on central tunnel around gear, break and doors but not sure when will do that. I will definitely update once I finish.<br /></p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>So I went for 3rd service of my Logan DLS on 10/6/08 to service center of Sterling Motors Gurgaon, it was first major service where some parts need to be changed. Also I complained about few other problems which I was facing, and those were:</p>
<p>&nbsp;- Hard Clutch</p>
<p>&nbsp;- Hard Power Steering</p>
<p>&nbsp;- RLH Door Making Noise while Closing</p>
<p>&nbsp;- Low Pickup</p>
<p>So service advisor checked my car and adviced a cost around 3000 Rs. (Ah I never expected 3000 for a free service), although they serviced and I got the bill:</p>
<p>Maximile Pulse 4.1 Ltr Engine Oil - Rs. 619.00<br />Filter Oil - Rs. 216.89<br />Cartridge Filter Air Feed - Rs. 352.89<br />Diesel Fuel Filter - Rs. 933.33<br />Oil Drain Plug Seal Masher - Rs. 40.33<br />ISI Brand PVC Insulation - Rs. 16<br />Engine Care - Rs. 351.00<br />Wheel Alignment - Rs. 300.00<br /><br />Free Service - 0.00<br />Door Setting - 0.00</p>
<p>Total Bill Including Tax - Rs. 3182.00</p>
<p>(wheel alignment was additional as car was moving one side)</p>
<p>So pickup and performance improved a bit and engine is running now more smoothly, fuel average is not changed.</p>
<p>The complaint of Door, Hard Clutch and Hard Power Steering is as it was, they have not done anything to improve that. Infact for clutch they said its clutch system is by default hard for power steering they said we have corrected tyre pressure and door they cant do anything.</p>]]>
